PRESS RELEASE:
Nairobi, Kenya | 25 May 2026 — The African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES) is pleased to announce the opening of its Country Office in Abuja, Nigeria, effective 1 June 2026. The Office will be headed by Dr David Awolala, AGNES’ Director of Technical Services.
The establishment of the Abuja Office marks an important step in AGNES’ commitment to deepen its engagement with Nigeria and support areas of shared interest in advancing its climate-resilient development and transformation agenda.
The Country Office will serve as a dedicated coordination hub for AGNES’ work in Nigeria. It will support the effective implementation of ongoing and future programmes; strengthen partnerships with federal, state and local institutions, academia, development partners, civil society, and non-state actors; and help develop a strong pipeline of climate action initiatives aligned with Nigeria’s national priorities and international climate commitments.
The Office is expected to enhance AGNES’ ability to respond more efficiently to country needs, support evidence-based policy processes, mobilize technical expertise, and promote stronger linkages within the interface of climate science, policy, and practice.
With this presence in Abuja, AGNES reaffirms its commitment to working closely with Nigerian institutions and partners to advance inclusive, practical, and impactful climate action.
