INTRODUCTION
Amid rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall patterns, and an increase in extreme weather events, Africa faces mounting risks to its ecosystems, food systems, and livelihoods. Traditional approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation are often inadequate due to limited data, weak disaster preparedness systems, and infrastructure constraints. However, the power of digital technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), offers a transformative opportunity to bridge these gaps by enhancing climate forecasting, enabling real-time monitoring, and optimizing resource allocation for climate resilience.
The African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) has developed the Advanced Course on Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence for Climate Action training program to build and equip a host of African professionals with the knowledge and tools to deploy cutting-edge digital solutions tailored to Africa’s climate challenges.
OBJECTIVE AND EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The overall objective of the program is to empower African professionals with advanced digital skills and AI/ML expertise to design, build, and deploy scalable climate solutions suited to Africa’s unique socio-economic and environmental contexts.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to apply AI and digital tools to climate action by understanding key concepts, analysing data, building predictive models, addressing ethical concerns, and deploying innovative solutions in resource-limited settings.
