Principal State Attorney
Wankyo Simon is a Principal State Attorney currently working in the Vice President’s Office in Tanzania. Before joining the Vice President’s Office, he worked in the National Prosecutions Services (NPS) for a period of 12 years. He also served as a Head of Environmental Crimes Desk and Prosecution Attorney In-charge of Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court in Dar es Salaam. Wankyo has played a critical role in prosecuting environmental, wildlife and organized crime offenders in Tanzania. He participated in International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) Roswell session 64 on the Executive Policy and Development Symposium on Transnational Organized Crime-Wildlife Trafficking and Model Law, in 2018. He is currently involved in providing legal advice in respect of Environmental and Union matters in the Vice President’s Office. He is also a National Focal Point for Nairobi Convention and the Commonwealth Blue Charter. He successfully completed a mentorship program by the African Group of Expert Negotiators Support (AGNES) namely Climate Governance, Diplomacy and Negotiations Leadership Program Cohort XIII. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree and Masters of Law in International Maritime Law.
