Rita Ellen Opiyo
Rita Ellen Opiyo is a dedicated Climate Change and Development professional with hands-on experience in sustainable agricultural practices, climate adaptation strategies, and environmental conservation. She is currently pursuing an MSc in Climate Change and Development at the University of Cape Town, where she is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar. Rita holds a BSc in Natural Resource Management from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
Rita has actively contributed to various research and development projects. As an Assistant Field Officer with the GIZ Agriculture Cluster, she conducted household surveys on agricultural practices and food security, utilizing mobile data collection tools to ensure accurate data capture. Her role as a Program Coordinator at Innovia Research Consulting involved leading research projects, facilitating stakeholder collaboration, and managing project budgets and resources. Additionally, she has served as a Field Assistant with the Partnership for African Social and Governance Research, supporting research focused on governance, social development, and economic growth.
Rita’s commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development is further demonstrated through her participation in the Climate Governance, Diplomacy, and Negotiations Leadership Program with AGNES Africa. She is also proficient in English, Kiswahili, Dholuo, and Kenya Sign Language, which enhances her ability to engage with diverse communities and stakeholders.
Currently, Rita is involved in the Emerge Leadership Program further honing her leadership skills. Her passion for environmental sustainability and climate-smart agriculture drives her to contribute to impactful initiatives addressing global climate challenges.
