Olujumoke Adesola Ogunrayi
Olujumoke Adesola Ogunrayi is a meteorologist and climate change expert with over a decade of experience in environmental sustainability and climate change. With an 18-year career in the Ondo State Ministry of Environment, Nigeria, she has served in various capacities, including Director of Climate Change and State Desk Officer on Climate Change.
Olujumoke’s expertise lies in assessing climate change vulnerability, impacts, and adaptation strategies, particularly in coastal communities. She also specializes in disaster risk reduction and the intersection of climate change with agriculture, health, and the economy. She holds a B.Tech and a Master’s degree in Meteorology from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria, a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management from Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, and a PhD in Integrated Coastal Zone Management from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
As a British Council Commonwealth Futures Climate Research fellow, she has led initiatives to mitigate climate change impacts and promote sustainable development in coastal regions. She participated in a high-level panel and presented 2 public lectures in the Ocean Pavilion at COP 27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. She co-authored the UN Ocean Decade Booklet for Africa, titled “The Science We Need for the Ocean We Want in Africa,” and contributed to the ‘Operationalizing the Loss and Damage Fund’ report from COP27 outcomes.
Trained as a climate leader by the African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES), she advocates for policy changes that promote a just transition to help communities better cope with the climate crisis, which she views as a threat multiplier. Her commitment lies in advancing knowledge and finding innovative solutions to address the pressing challenges of climate change.
