Mary Ngaiwi
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Mary Ngaiwi is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, working with the Performance, Innovation and Strategic Analysis for Impact (PISA4I) and the Low-Emission Food Systems Sub lever. Her role is to apply socio-environmental economic skills to analyze the economic incentives and constraints that influence smallholder farmers’ adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. She also assesses the impacts of low-emission strategies on food security, poverty, and biodiversity conservation, and explores the potential of carbon markets in enhancing climate mitigation and adaptation.
She holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Buea, where she also teaches part-time courses on Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Plant Science and Cooperative Management, and Environmental Economics. Her PhD research focused on the valuation of ecosystem services and the estimation of carbon footprints of agricultural products. She recently developed a keen interest in climate finance, carbon accounting, and markets, and how they can drive sustainable development and mitigate climate change impacts. She is also passionate about contributing to global efforts in addressing the challenges of food security, poverty, and environmental degradation.
