Kumbulani MURENGA
Kumbulani MURENGA is a multi-skilled climate specialist with a strong understanding of climate relevant strategic issues such as climate finance, green growth, climate security, policies for climate action, and multilateral climate governance amongst others. He has extensive climate relevant multi-sectoral experience from disciplines such as water resources management, water supply and sanitation, development finance, and international development cooperation. Kumbulani has led some climate related ground-breaking initiatives which include the report on “Planning Considerations for the Establishment of a Financing Mechanism for Climate-induced Human Mobility for Africa”, as well as the establishment of the Water, Climate, and Development Program in Southern Africa, the Swedish Initiative for Sustainable Management of Water Resources, and the Global Water Partnership in Southern Africa. Furthermore, Kumbulani has significant practical experience with respect to urbanization and human settlement matters as far as climate action is concerned. His experience covers areas such as, among others, urban agriculture, sustainable mobility, sustainable energy and water supply / use solutions, wastewater and solid waste management solutions, nature-based solutions, greening the humanitarian assistance, as well as climate change mainstreamed urban planning and economic development in the context of cities and towns
Kumbulani has worked with UN-Habitat, UN Migration, the African Development Bank Group, and he is the immediate past Executive Director of the Institute of Water and Sanitation Development in Southern Africa.
Kumbulani holds an MSc in Strategic Management for the Derbyshire Business School, University of Derby, a Bachelor of Science degree, and several climate change related certifications. He enjoys creating new things, making new connections, and he is a fitness training enthusiast.
