Joylyn Cherotich
Structural Engineer
Joylyn Cherotich is a specialist in Structural Engineering. As the African continent faces the devastating effects of climate change, she aims to innovate various designs, processes, and materials that will help mitigate these effects. As Africa’s main goal is adaptation, she works with various experts to build structures that are climate-resilient. She is currently working as a graduate structural engineer with the Kenya National Highways Authority and as a volunteer mentor to graduate women in STEM, a project of the Royal Engineering Academy in partnership with the University of Plymouth. She has a master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Plymouth in the UK where she did a project on recycling aggregates. She believes that for a better future, we have to be SMART with all our objectives, and to quickly solve the climate issues, we have to learn how to rely on the 5 R’s principles of sustainable development: refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle.
