Gertrude Tala
My name is Gertrude Tala, a climate Justice advocate, currently working at Women’s Empowerment Link. At the local level, I advocate for women’s leadership in climate change governance through grassroots initiatives like membership in Ward Climate Change Planning Committees as well as through movement building and organizing.
At the sub-national level, I contribute to climate finance and policy advocacy, by participating in the establishment of Legal and climate governance frameworks. I also participate in the development of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), where I advocate for gender-inclusive climate change budgeting and mainstreaming in development plans and budgets.
Nationally, I engage in legislative processes such as the Climate Change Bill amendment. Regionally, I am also part of the African Women and Gender constituency. I also participate in events like African Climate Week and Summits, and other events such as the UN-hosted and AGNES convenings on climate action and gender equality.
Globally, I participate in UNFCCC processes, engaging in YOUNGO and Women and Gender constituencies’ Actions and side events, where advocate for climate finance, as a critical enabler for Just Transition and Adaptation.
My efforts span from local grassroots initiatives to international policy arenas, focusing on the nexus between Gender Justice and Climate Justice, advocating for Just climate financing, and advocating for gender-transformative climate governance.
