Eddy Shamu is an insightful Senior Clerical Officer at the Malawi Legal Aid Bureau, known for his excellent management and administrative skills, self-driven advocacy, and commitment to sustainable development. He holds a Bachelor of Public Management and a Bachelor of Public Governance (Honours) from the Namibia University of Science and Technology.
Currently, Eddy is a virtual volunteer with B360 Educational Partnerships in Switzerland, where he serves on the Job Search Support (JSS) leadership team, assisting recent graduates from Namibian universities in navigating the corporate job market. His passion for climate leadership was ignited when he represented his university at the 5th Namibia International Energy Conference, dwelling on both Oil & Gas (Green Hydrogen), where discussions on carbon emissions and environmental threats underscored the urgency of climate action.
Having witnessed the devastating effects of climate change firsthand through events like Cyclone Freddy in Malawi, Eddy is dedicated to driving positive change in his community. He has enhanced his capacity in climate change and disaster risk reduction through virtual workshops with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Eddy views the Climate Governance, Diplomacy, and Negotiations Leadership Program as a vital step in his career, equipping him with the knowledge needed to contribute meaningfully to Malawi’s efforts in addressing climate challenges. He is eager to collaborate with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) in Dedza on projects involving the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and UNDP in the foreseeable future.
As a Climate Leader, with aspirations of pursuing a Master’s degree in Climate Governance and Risk Management, Eddy is committed to leveraging his role at the Malawi Legal Aid Bureau to advocate for environmental laws and policies that will bolster Malawi’s climate resilience.
