He holds a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (specializing in Enzymology and Biotechnology) and is currently a lecturer at the University of Jos. In this role, he integrates his expertise in teaching and research with a passion for community development, mentoring students, and leading impactful initiatives. His research focuses on leveraging enzymology and molecular biology to address global environmental and health challenges within a “One Health” framework.
As the founder of the Visionary Advocates for Sustainable Development Goals (VASDG) at the University of Jos, Dr. Joel empowers students to spearhead community advocacy projects aligned with the SDGs. He mentors young leaders on critical issues such as antimicrobial resistance, sustainable agriculture, and environmental sustainability, encouraging leadership, volunteerism, and civic responsibility beyond the classroom.
Dr. Joel’s leadership is further demonstrated by his participation in the World Youth Forum in Egypt and his training in civic society management at the YALI Regional Leadership Academy. His advocacy spans peacebuilding, youth empowerment, public health education, and access to education for vulnerable populations. As a trained Climate Reality Leader, he actively promotes climate change awareness and environmental stewardship, educating communities on the SDGs and their role in building a sustainable future.
He is also excited to leverage his current training in Science Communication as an Associate Fellow of the STEMi Makers of Africa (August–Nov 2024) to engage high school students and the general public in STEM advocacy. His goal is to inspire marginalized groups, including the girl-child in Africa, to see science not just as a career, but as a pathway to addressing global challenges like climate change.
Through his research, community outreach, and dedication to science communication, Dr. Joel remains a driving force for positive change in health, education, and environmental sustainability across Africa. His leadership in mentoring, teaching, and advocacy reflects his unwavering commitment to advancing the SDGs and empowering the next generation of youth leaders.
