Dairy cows grazing in the fields

In the heart of Kenya’s economy lies a sector that nourishes millions, sustains rural livelihoods, and drives regional trade — livestock. It is central to food security, job creation, and community resilience. But today, this sector is under growing threat.

In 2023 alone, more than 2.6 million livestock perished across 23 counties. The culprits? Prolonged droughts, pasture scarcity, water shortages, and the spread of deadly livestock diseases. The result? Devastated communities. Lost livelihoods. A national economy that bleeds.

But what if this crisis is also an opportunity?

On 20th November 2025, a powerful coalition bringing together the African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES), the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, and the GIZ is bringing the private sector to the table for a high-level dialogue that could reshape the future of livestock in Kenya. This isn’t just a meeting, it’s a strategic convening to unlock private capital, showcase investable innovations, and dismantle the barriers standing in the way of climate-resilient livestock systems.

At stake is not only the survival of a sector but the transformation of it. This moment invites agribusiness leaders, investors, insurers, processors, and financial institutions to reimagine their role in livestock development: not as bystanders, but as co-architects of solutions.

With climate-smart innovations and adaptive livestock practices on the rise, the time is ripe to unlock investment that not only turns a profit but also builds resilience. Kenya’s livestock sector is wide open for business, but it needs visionary financiers, agripreneurs, processors, feed manufacturers, insurers, and input suppliers to lead the charge.

What are the risks? What are the barriers? More importantly, what are the untapped, high-return opportunities that lie beneath the surface?

Join us for a robust discussion with expected participants from the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA) as we explore the future of livestock investment through a climate lens.
