INTRODUCTION
Climate change is intensifying the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, disrupting ecosystems, and posing serious threats to socio-economic systems across Africa. Floods, droughts, and heatwaves are impacting agriculture, health, and infrastructure, highlighting the urgent need for proactive resilience-building strategies. Efficient climate risk management hinges on the ability to forecast climate trends (climate outlooks), assess sector-specific impacts, and develop adaptive responses informed by robust data and science.
However, in many parts of Africa, limited capacity to interpret climate projections and assess localized impacts hinders timely and effective climate risk decision-making. To bridge this gap, the African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) has developed this Advanced Course on Climate Outlook, Impact Assessment, and Climate Risk Management training program. The course aims to empower professionals with the ability to transform climate data into actionable insights and resilient plans tailored to local contexts. This is a call for applications to eligible candidates.
OBJECTIVE AND EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The overall objective of the program is to build capacity in climate prediction, impact evaluation, and risk mitigation by integrating scientific insights with practical solutions for policymakers, businesses, and communities.
By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to generate regional climate outlooks, assess sector-specific impacts, apply risk management frameworks, develop early warning systems and adaptive policies, and communicate climate risks effectively to diverse audiences.
