THE PRE-SB 62 AGNES STRATEGY MEETING

The Pre-SB 62 AGNES Strategy Meeting, scheduled for February 25-28, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya, aims to strengthen Africa’s negotiation strategies ahead of SB62 in June 2025. Organized by the African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES) in collaboration with key partners, the meeting will focus on critical issues such as climate finance, agriculture, gender, and human mobility in the context of climate change. Participants, including negotiators, researchers, and civil society organizations, will engage in plenary discussions and breakout sessions to develop strategic approaches and draft key submissions for upcoming negotiations. The event will build on COP29 outcomes, including progress on the Global Goal on Adaptation, the Baku Adaptation Roadmap, and the operationalization of the Sharm el-Sheikh online portal for climate action in agriculture. Additionally, discussions will highlight the importance of gender-responsive climate policies, the role of ocean ecosystems, and strategies for mobilizing climate finance under the “Baku to Belém Roadmap to USD 1.3 trillion.” The meeting will ultimately enhance Africa’s preparedness for SB62 negotiations and ensure its priorities are well represented on the global stage.
